Riiiiight it's nightmare logic. I'm thinking it's only standing still cause they're all staring at it. If they all look away it's gonna start moving, like the Angels from Dr Who or SCP-173

It might still be harmless because it's a corpse of a nightmare creature, or it's the (giantified and metallified) corpse of a victim of the nightmare creature, or it's the result of the abilities of some magic user in hiding who used his magic powers to fight the nightmares.

Could be the 'base' of a monster that's trying to recollect itself, and only really a threat if you're 'in the way'. A monkey trap if you will.

Even if it's just a distraction it already works perfectly. Since they are all stopped and are paying attention only to it. Even better then some fake cat.
