"One of the crownholders", "Great Mage Purge"? Sounds like "peace and stability" from the end of the tale about King Valan's son (pages 3000-3026) didn't last till present day.
Judging by the dates on chapter title page, "Vallance, current day on the page after that and Draeckynburg both on title page and this one, Purple / Theobold is Held's half-brother?
If this was how Hero Oh Hero had started, I would've said that it's an amazing framing device that got me hooked as effectively as the opening narration of any FromSoft game.
As things stand, I still think it's an amazing framing device, because it's sucked me right in. I'm just wondering where this story is headed in relation to everything else going on right now.
I'm going to guess that Held is Theobold's Niece, and Theobold effectively raised Held, particularly after they were revealed to have Magical Abilities, most likely Free Magic specifically, while the Great Mage Purge was still ongoing.
The starting point we're about to see, I expect, is setting up Theobold's half-brother as an ass, and will accumulate towards Held's birth, followed by the first (checks the cover page) ten years of Held's Life. I'm expecting this chapter to cover about 20 years of the 40 that Purple Knight is talking about, thus meaning that the Held that I'm expecting in the comic later on to be about 30 years old.
