So this is freaky and speculation and all buut… I’m intruiged by that design now that I can actually see it. My eyes aren’t great and on the previous pages when it was partly transparent I could only see a sort of vague shape. Now I see… a mix of astronaut, knight, and, judging by the aparatus, time traveller with a machine vaguely reminiscient of the one from the book “The Time Machine”.

I don't think they starved to death. It seems they never even got off the chair, but there's no signs of distress either. So whatever got them came unexpected, didn't involve significant force and did not take very long.
