The background story for Tobi's people was that basically that her grandfather and a few others established themselves with the dungeons and all after arriving in the desert. There is a temple Tobi got through to arrive in Lorg. This could mean that the Technomancers really left this dimension to arrive in the other dimension and built the dungeoneering society.

Well, at least there's hope we'll learn what happened to the technomancers (unlike with Dwemers). Maybe they were transformed, maybe they were transported... or maybe they were sacrificed to the Great Old Ones, time should tell.

@Silver: I asked the same a few pages ago... the only distinction that might apply thus far is that technoCRATS are the people of the Lost Continent specifically, while the technoMANCERS are their fellow people all over the world.... pure speculation on my end ;)
